The Last 10%...

There's a saying that the last 10% of game development takes 90% of the time.
Perhaps that saying originated somewhere else and applies to many creative ventures, but it's certainly true for High Five Frenzy!

As an example, here's a short list of things worked on this week:
  • Implementing Power ups
  • Addressing issues with wi-fi matching
  • Art issues when using custom skins
  • Fixing the tutorial path
  • Server script updates
  • Particle effect updates

None of these items were particularity hard (read below about wi-fi matching) but they just take time. And inevitably, working on those items added more items to the list of things to do.

For me, the most interesting problem on the list is that of wi-fi matching. In a nut shell, if two people searched for wi-fi games within one second of each other, they wouldn't pair up together. This became a chicken and egg problem but I think we've gotten past it. If you're one of the 2.5% of people who find those kind of details interesting, let me know and I'll go through each bit of the problem and solution in painstaking detail!

Finally, we now have a target launch window! If everything goes as planned, we should be live on both Android and iOS by April 6th!
We couldn't be doing this without everyone's continued support, so thank you!

As promised, we've announced our newest title!
High Five Frenzy will be coming to a app delivery service near you in the near future. As they say, the last 10% takes 90% of the time, and that's correct!
We've been working with John Bond, an awesome artist who has given our game a cohesive feel and done a great job with everything we've asked. Click here to check out his other work.

As we wrap this up, these posts will be focused on specific items we're working on and issues we're dealing with.
So if that kind of stuff floats your boat, stay tuned!

We're really looking forward to getting this title out, and we want to again thank everyone for your support.
If you'd like to support us, the easiest way is the 'Donate' button to the right of the page, or buy making a purchase in Perudo.
Or sending pizza, or a fun board game.
We're not picky.

This week's update will be a bit shorter, but only because we're prepping to reveal our next title!
To start with, we ended last week at the PIGSquad Global Game Jam showcase, and it was great to meet and talk with so many creative people, all with a passion for games! There were some really great games out to play, and a number of folks tried out Comfort Zone.

While we don't have events planned for March, the folks at PIGSquad have a full calendar that you can check out here.

We're hard at work tying up all the threads of our next title, and we can't wait to share it with you guys!

That's it for now, but we may be posting more here and on our social media pages as well as the week unfolds. If you're not following us on Twitter or Facebook, now's a good time to start!

As always, thanks for the continued support!

Here in the Pacific Northwest, winter has arrived. There's snow on the ground, our cities have shut down, and the stores have been emptied.
And here at Potential Game Studios, we've been working on and updating our games!

First, we had another record-breaking day for Perudo. On February 4th, you played nearly 150 games! That's more then 6 games an hour- which sounds small but is huge for us, so thank you!
Earlier today, Perudo got a big update that includes:
 - A purchase option to remove ads and unlock new dice!
 - Turn on or off the Palifico round
 - Set if aces should be wild or not
 - Allow Calza (also known as Spot-On or Jonti)
Check it out if in our Games section if you haven't yet!

We also put a call out for artists for our next, unannounced title. We're really excited by the submissions we got, and we look forward to getting to work with some really great talent on this project.
We'll be announcing this title soon, so make sure to check back.

Finally, we're doing a number of events this month with PIG Squad. Come say hi at the Global Game Jam Showcase on Friday, February 22nd. You can find the details on our Calendar page.

That's it for this week, thanks for your continued support!

Our Personal Best and Upcoming Events

2/4/2019

Greetings again!
It's hard to believe that February is already here- it seems like the year just started, and here we are 9.5% of the way through!

January wrapped up with a new record for Perudo! Between 12:01 am and 11:59 pm on the 26th, exactly 100 games of Perudo were played! Then, just yesterday, we broke that record with 104 games. That's the most in a 24 period since we launched- so thank you for playing! It's clear that Perudo is far more popular then the Superbowl was...

In other news, we have some events planned for this month.
On Sunday, February 10th, we're planning to be at the PIGSquad meetup at the Lucky Lab from 6:00 pm on. We'll be hanging out, working on games, and just having some fun.
Then, on Friday, February 22nd, we'll be at the PIGSquad Global Game Jam showcase starting at 7:00 pm. You can play the game that Russ worked on during the Game Jam as well as many others made by the PIGSquad group.
Check out our Calendar page or the PIGSquad events page for more info.

We're still working on games, and we're just about ready to announce what our next release is. So please make sure to check back and thank you so much for your continued support!

Well, we did it,,, mostly.
A game has been made, and the results are basically what we set out to do.
It's not amazing, and there are many bugs. But if you'd like to check it out, you can find it (and many many other games) here.

Thanks for taking a look, and we'll post more details about the PIGSquad event where all the games made by the local jamers are available to play.

Until next time!
